Mazda steering wheel and instrument panel

Mazda Radar Cruise Control with Stop & Go can reduce some of the repetitive accelerator and brake inputs involved in highway driving and stop-and-go traffic. The system can automatically adjust vehicle speed to help maintain a preset following distance from a detected vehicle ahead. Blaise Alexander Mazda of State College explains how the feature works and what drivers should know when using it.

What It Actually Does

Mazda Radar Cruise Control with Stop & Go uses a front radar sensor to detect a vehicle ahead and automatically adjusts acceleration and braking to help maintain a preset following distance. When no vehicle is detected ahead, the system can maintain the speed selected by the driver.

In stop-and-go traffic, the system can decelerate the vehicle to a complete stop and hold it when the detected vehicle ahead stops. When traffic begins moving again, the driver can resume operation, such as by pressing the RES switch or accelerator pedal. The driver remains responsible for steering, monitoring surrounding traffic, and braking or accelerating when conditions require it.

Where It Makes the Biggest Difference

Highway driving and stop-and-go traffic are situations where Mazda Radar Cruise Control with Stop & Go can reduce repetitive accelerator and brake inputs. As traffic slows or speeds up, the system can make corresponding speed adjustments while maintaining the selected following-distance setting.

The system is designed to assist rather than replace the driver. Weather, road conditions, the type or position of a vehicle ahead, and sudden changes in traffic can affect its operation. Drivers should continue monitoring traffic and be prepared to brake, accelerate, or otherwise take control whenever necessary.
